There is not always a direct trigger for our feelings. And sometimes the endless search for a “reason” behind a feeling turns into a hyper focus on our feelings. That can even make it feel bigger. Sometimes there isn’t a reason. Feelings come and go.

The goal isn’t to dissect every feeling that comes into our bodies, it’s to become more comfortable with discomfort. Hyper focusing can make the feeling worse. Counterintuitively, accepting the feeling may allow it to dissipate.

So if you wake up in a cold sweat, you don’t have to spend an hour trying to figure out what happened and why. You can learn to accept the discomfort and prove that you can tolerate the feeling as it slowly goes away.
